A Spotlight on Books

As a multi heritage family from an early age we wanted to fill our daughter’s bookshelves with books that reflect our families and all the amazing heritages and cultures across the world. We wanted to build her sense of self and also open her eyes to so much learning through the power of reading. We also did this as we noticed in so many child-centered spaces we were going to, she could not see herself reflected. In the latest CLPE Reflecting realities Report, only 18% of fictional children’s books published featured ethnically diverse characters. We also see the lack of support given to ethnically diverse authors across the publishing industry and real change needed to readdress this imbalance. A Summer’s Day at Crealy Adventure Park

Some days stay with you long after they are over. The family trip to Crealy with Mixed Families Together was one of those days. As a family, we wouldn't normally be able to visit Crealy because of the cost, and also because of going alone, so being invited as part of a group was a real gift. But the most valuable part of the day wasn't the rides or the attractions. It was the feeling of sharing the experience with other families. My 13-year-old son, who would usually spend much of the day on his iPad, barely stopped moving. He laughed, explored, and came home full of stories instead of screen time.
